How many driving lessons will you need?

Typical hours, what speeds things up, and how to make every lesson count.

It is the question almost every learner asks. The honest answer is that it depends on you — but there are some useful guidelines.

The typical range

Most learners need somewhere between 40 and 50 hours of professional tuition, alongside private practice if they can get it. Some people need fewer hours, some need more, and that is completely normal.

What affects how many lessons you need

  • Regularity. Weekly or more frequent lessons stop skills fading between sessions.
  • Private practice. Extra time on the road with a supervising driver makes a big difference.
  • Car type. Many learners pick up automatic driving more quickly.
  • Understanding, not memorising. Knowing why you do something makes it stick — which is exactly what Gokhan's visual diagrams are for.

Getting an honest estimate

After your first few lessons, Gokhan will assess your progress and give you an honest estimate. He will only recommend you take the test when he is confident you will pass. If you need to move faster, ask about intensive courses.
